Malcolm Weaver, Managing Director and Owner of MW Agri Limited, manages large-area grass maintenance contracts across the UK. Before adopting the Trimax Pegasus with OptiAdjust, changing cutting heights meant stopping to manually adjust the mower, a process that could take 15 to 20 minutes at a time. To reduce the number of adjustments, Malcolm’s team would group properties with the same cut height together, complete those sites first, then readjust the mower and begin another round of jobs. Looking for a more efficient way to work, Malcolm adopted OptiAdjust, giving his team the ability to adjust cutting heights on the move and approach each route more productively.
MORE EFFICIENCY ACROSS EVERY JOB
The biggest benefit of OptiAdjust has been the impact on productivity. By eliminating the need to stop and manually adjust the mower throughout the day, MW Agri can now complete routes more efficiently and spend more time mowing. “If you add up four adjustments in a day, you can save anything from an hour to an hour and a half,” Malcolm explains. Those savings quickly add up across a week, allowing the business to fit more work into the day while reducing unnecessary travel and fuel consumption.
The flexibility to adjust cutting heights while travelling between jobs has also changed how routes are planned. Instead of organising work around mower settings, operators can simply move from one property to the next while the machine adjusts automatically. “Now I literally drive out of one driveway while it’s adjusting from 30 mm to 50 mm, drive into the other driveway and do the job straight away,” he says. Reflecting on the impact of the system, Malcolm adds, “The time saving is amazing.”
MILLIMETRE-PERFECT PRECISION
While the productivity gains were immediately noticeable, Malcolm has also been impressed by the level of control OptiAdjust provides. Unlike traditional systems that rely on fixed height increments, OptiAdjust allows operators to set the exact cutting height required for every site. Whether it’s 35 mm, 40 mm, 43 mm, or any other setting, operators can quickly dial in the precise height needed to achieve the desired finish.
“Having the millimetre-perfect adjustment allows you to not just be stuck at every 10 mm increment. You can adjust it to 35, 40, 45, or even 43 to get the exact cut you want,” Malcolm explains. This flexibility helps MW Agri consistently deliver the required finish across a wide range of turf surfaces while adapting to changing conditions throughout the day.
Safer, Simpler, Supported
Adjusting by hand also meant working on or under the machine. Malcolm also points to safety. “For councils and anybody across the board, the safety side of it, that you’re not crawling underneath or over the top of the machine to adjust it.” Servicing is quick too. “Two grease nipples on each gearbox. Very quick, very simple, and with the zero maintenance on the spindles and the roller bearings, you can easily have the whole job done in five minutes.” And when the machine arrived, “Trimax came to the yard. Everybody rallied around, very supportive, set the machine up, set the app up, and it’s so easy to use on any device.”
A CONTRACTOR’S DREAM
The simplicity of the OptiAdjust system has also contributed to its success. Operators can create preset cutting heights for different applications and make adjustments remotely using the app. “Just bring up the preset list, give them all a name. We’ve got amenity, cricket, polo, whatever. Hit the button, and while you’re driving along the road, it adjusts to the correct height,” Malcolm says. The ability to make precise adjustments without interrupting work has helped the team get the most from every working day.
For Malcolm, the combination of time and fuel savings, safer adjustment, and precision makes OptiAdjust an easy recommendation. “It’s a contractor’s dream,” he says. “The OptiAdjust is the perfect combination.” And for contractors who regularly change mowing heights throughout the day, his advice is simple: “If you’re changing heights more than twice a day, it’s a no-brainer.”
